Oakbrook, IL — A gay-friendly TV advertisement from Oakbrook-based McDonald's, which has aired only in France, has gone viral online.
The 45-second spot titled "Come as you are," and shows a young gay man eating in a McDonald's with his father, who doesn't know his son is gay.
The teen is seen talking on the phone with an unseen male love interest from his school as his father orders from a McDonald's cashier. The teen hangs up when his father approaches. Seemingly unaware of his son's sexuality, the father jokes "too bad your class is all boys, you could get all the girls."
The son smiles at the camera, and the ad ends with the tagline, "Venez comme vous etes" which translates to "Come as you are."
By Wednesday afternoon, a week after being posted to YouTube, the ad has received more than 600,000 views.
"We wanted to show society the way it is today, without judging: there's obviously no problem with homosexuality in France today," Nathalie Legarlantezec, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, told French media.
It's the first time the fast food giant has targeted the LGBT community with advertising.
Gay rights advocates have praised the ad's inclusive message of tolerance.

Why don't we ask that question to almost EVERY commercial! They might have just made this to express Gay Rights, and not selfishly advertise food (which again, no food was advertised)
HECK YEAH! THAT'S RIGHT! THAT EXPLAINS RONALD! lol just kidding. well it may be in france, which is awesome, but finally adds which everyone knows now has gay people in it. the world is once again changing. lol

What should be appreciated here is the effort McDonald's has made. They're about the only restaurant in the world who actually supports homosexuality, let alone make a commercial showing a gay teen. Thank you McDonald's!

from an advertising point of view the commercial has hardly nothing to do with mcy d's accept for the fact that their in one... advertising is advertising its always gana have a specific group its geared towards. I realy dont see the need for any gay adds... if we wana be treated equal to a normal straight person y do people make a big deal when were not singled out? just a thought. I dont mind that people dont target adds to bi males if im hungry ill go eat something if i need clothes ill buy my fav. brand if u just be urself u wont have to worry about being acknowledged

Pretty much ALL advertising is geared towards straight guys who have a lot of sex! Do you think all the TV commercials, billboards,magazine ads, etc. with the girls in bikinis are geared towards lesbians? No! Quit whining!
